The President Emeritus Volk PRIDE in Leadership Scholarship

The President Emeritus Volk PRIDE in Leadership Scholarship was established by Lackawanna College President Emeritus, Mark Volk, to benefit Junior and Senior students who identify with the LGBTQ+ community and/or has a proven track record of volunteering to support the LGBTQ+ community as a true ally.

The President Emeritus Volk PRIDE in Leadership Scholarship is an annual scholarship that will be awarded to one qualifying student in each Junior and Senior class and can be carried into the Senior year by a student as long as the financial need remains. Students must identify with the LGBTQ+ community and/or volunteer to support the LGBTQ+ community as a true ally, take a student leadership role within the College and need financial assistance in completing their bachelor’s degree. Should there be no applicants from among the Junior or Senior level classes, awards may be made to Associate’s Degree seeking students who meet the identity and financial need requirements. Qualifying students can be awarded up to $1,000.00 per semester ($2,000.00 total for one academic year).

Mark Volk Presidential Scholarship

The Mark Volk Presidential Scholarship honors the vision and thoughtful leadership of President Emeritus Mark Volk in charting the College’s evolving mission and prudently overseeing its growth throughout his tenure as Lackawanna College’s President – a period in which many higher education institutions floundered and even failed. This scholarship provides financial assistance to any eligible student at the College who demonstrates similar qualities of vision and leadership in his or her student life.

The Mark Volk Presidential Scholarship will provide a financial benefit to a student who, like President Emeritus Mark Volk, consistently demonstrates intelligence, vision, and the capacity to lead others in dreaming and achieving what was previously unimaginable. Candidates for this award should exemplify their leadership through any combination of academic excellence, extra-curricular campus activities, community-based volunteer participation, and/or other relevant activities by the candidate deemed worthy by the College’s committee which reviews candidates for this scholarship.

The Mark Volk Presidential Scholarship shall be awarded for one full academic year at Lackawanna College. The scholarship will be given in two (2) annual installments: Fifty (50%) percent of the proceeds will be distributed during the fall semester and fifty (50%) perfect during the spring semester.
