Academic Advising is a collaborative relationship, consisting of intentional interactions between advisor and advisee, that holistically benefits the student, the advisor, and Lackawanna College. The advisor and advisee develop an academic plan and implement solutions to guide student success. A productive advising relationship will help students envision, foster, and achieve their goals. Academic advisors also play an important role in providing direction, support, and referrals for specialized assistance if necessary.
Advising is the key to student retention. The best way to keep students enrolled is to keep them stimulated, challenged, and progressing toward a meaningful goal. The best way to do that—especially among students—is through informed student advising.
Lackawanna College’s Student Advising Program is based on the premise that there is no substitute for faculty and professional staff members who serve as role models and mentors to their students.
All matriculating students are assigned a member of the College’s faculty or professional staff as an academic advisor at the beginning of their studies at Lackawanna College. Students enrolled in specialty programs (i.e., Health Sciences Programs, School of Hospitality Programs) are assigned to an advisor within that program.
