Let’s Talk The Talk And Walk The Walk

As Lackawanna College simultaneously looks back on its past and plans for an exciting future, we see a unique opportunity to start a discussion on issues impacting the lives of all of us in Northeastern Pennsylvania. We, as a community, have identified the issues and now it’s time to ask questions and explore themes that will invoke a spirited dialogue, raise awareness and ultimately construct solutions.

What We See

  • The stark difference socioeconomic status can make in one’s educational attainment, employment prospects and financial stability
  • Rampant underemployment
  • The disconnect between quality employment opportunities and workforce readiness
  • Policies that hurt our kids’ right to equal opportunity in public education

What We Do

  • Offer a distinctly private education at an intentionally affordable cost
  • Meet students where they are while holding them to high academic and social standards
  • Deeply commit to open enrollment while offering highly competitive and rigorous programs complete with jobs that provide family sustaining employment
  • Continue to be our community’s college, educating our local students so they can stay local

We Need to Do More

Our institutional success is tied to the needs of our region. We believe that we need to provide more than just access to higher education—we also need to provide a roadmap to achieving a high-quality education, complete with diverse student support services, an exceptional learning experience and financial aid innovations to support college success.

We Need YOU

Why you, you ask? Over the next several months, we will share our thoughts on some of the exciting, vexing, complex questions facing us as college leaders and as socially responsible members of the NEPA community. We plan to ask tough questions and tackle difficult topics. This requires ALL members of our community to be part of the discussion – and that means YOU!

Let’s make this a lively, positive, solution-focused and innovative dialogue. We know we don’t have all of the solutions so challenge us, question us, let us know your thoughts.

What are some solutions you thought of to help college readiness? How do we invigorate the community to support the re-imagination of our K-12 system? Hope starts here.
