HAWLEY – Cellular One has established an annual academic scholarship to provide tuition assistance to a student(s) pursuing a degree at the Lackawanna College Lake Region Center at the Hawley Silk Mill. The award is $1,000 and will be given to worthy candidates annually, beginning with the 2010-2011 academic year. Announcement of the scholarship recipient(s) will be made at the upcoming Lackawanna College Lake Region Golf Tournament on September 15, 2010 at Woodloch Springs. Proceeds from the first annual golf tournament will provide additional tuition assistance for students attending Lackawanna College’s new Lake Region Center.
“Cellular One is excited to have established the first-ever scholarship fund for students who will be attending Lackawanna College. We are committed to supporting the local community, especially in the area of education,” stated Erwin Guberman, Cellular One Sales Manager.
“Lackawanna College has been very pleased with the community’s response to our new presence in the Hawley Silk Mill. Donations to scholarship funds are an excellent way to support local individuals pursuing a college education close to home. The funds invested locally will be designated specifically for the Lake Region Center students. Cellular One immediately saw the benefits of student support, and we are very grateful for their leadership,” said Bridget FitzPatrick, Associate Vice President for Advancement, Lackawanna College.
