Early Childhood Education
ECE 125 - Assessment I
Linking assessment to objectives, using diverse assessment methods to express learning more comprehensively, and ensuring assessments that are appropriate to the developmental level and learning styles of students is crucial in authentic determination of process. This course offers opportunities for educators to develop in-depth knowledege and skills through research, policy, and the best practices in assessment, curriculum planning, and program evaluation. (3 Credits)

ECE 206 - Administration of ECE Programs
This seminar-style course is designed for those who aspire to lead or own an ECE program. It emphasizes the strategies and processes needed to operate high quality early childhood programs. The management of program schedules, environments, policies and procedures and staff training are emphasized as well as how to observe, evaluate, plan and carry out quality enhancement efforts. This course fulfills one third of tlhe objectives specified fo rthe completion of the PA Director's Core Credential. (3 Credits) Prerequisites: ECE105

ECE 210 - Early Child Spec Needs
This course will review the historical positions and current legislation regarding early interventionservices. It will identify challenges young children may bring to the classroom, including those characterized as physical, cognitive, sensory, communicative and behavioral. Adaptive programming will be explored and classroom management techniques will be integrated with developmentally appropriate practices. (3 Credits) Prerequisites: ECE 105, 115, 215

ECE 260 - Field Studies I
ECE 260 (Formerly ED 267) – Practicum in Early Childhood Education Development This course is a high-intensity, structured field experience in assigned early learning classrooms. Experiences are designed to provide practice in child oberservation and daily classroom routines, as well as in the creation and implementation of developmentally appropraite activities utilizing proper teaching techniques. Classroom attendance is required to analyze and discuss professional considerations and issues, as well as field experience hours. (3 Credits) Prerequisites: A GPA of 3.0 or higher, ECE 105, 115, 210.

ECE 299 - ECE Elective Independent Study
In this independent study, the student will explore the nature of leadership styles and methods in order to learn how to construct fruitful educational partnerships, ethically motivate and guide staff, and formulate their own philosophy of supervision. The student will also demonstrate an awareness of the strengths and weaknesses in his or her own leadership in order to employ effective strategic planning for daily early care and education facility operation. This includes effective methods of communication and interaction; and evaluation and application of schedules, environments, policies, procedures, and staff training. (3 Credits)
