Early Childhood Education
ECE 105 - Intro to Early Childhood Ed
ECE 105 (Formerly ED 120) - Introduction to Early Childhood Education This course stresses the role of professionalism, the use of a code of ethics and the integration of developmentally appropriate practices in all ECE settings. An evaluation of current trends and issues related to guiding and educating young children, including the exceptional child, is presented. An investigation of those theorists who have laid the groundwork for today's ECE programs, as well as their influence on current ECE practices, is included. This course fulfills 45 of the specified training hours required for a CDA. (3 Credits)

ECE 115 - Early Child Growth & Devel
ECE 115 (Formerly ED 185) - Early Childhood Growth and Development This course presents the development of the whole child from three years of age through pre-adolescence. The various theories of development, the formation and stabilization of the personality, the assesment of the child and his/her environment, and the importance of developmentally approciate standard-based curriculm is also presented. A field component is part of the course expectation. This course fulfills 45 of the specified training hours requied for a CDA. (3credits) Prerequisites: ECE 105, 215

ECE 125 - Assessment I
Linking assessment to objectives, using diverse assessment methods to express learning more comprehensively, and ensuring assessments that are appropriate to the developmental level and learning styles of students is crucial in authentic determination of process. This course offers opportunities for educators to develop in-depth knowledege and skills through research, policy, and the best practices in assessment, curriculum planning, and program evaluation.

ECE 205 - Leadership in ECE
This seminar-style course is directed toward those who aspire to leadership positions in educational settings. It explores the nature of leadership and it's application in programs for young children. Developing strategies to build partnerships with families, motivating and guilding staff, identifying a variety of supervisory techniques and understanding the daily operation of an early care and and education facillity helps to prepare students for leadership roles. This course fulfills one third of the objectives specified for the completion of the PA Director's Core Credential. (3 Credits) Prerequisites: ECE 105

ECE 206 - Admin. of Early Learning Program
This seminar-style course is designed for those who aspire to lead or own an ECE program. It emphasizes the strateece207gies and processes needed to operate high quality early childhood programs. The management of program schedules, environments, policies and procedures and staff training are emphasized as well as how to observe, evaluate, plan and carry out quality enhancement efforts. ECE 207 - Bus. Practices/Early Learn. Prog.
This seminar-style course is designed for those who need to develop the skills necessary to lead or open an ECE program. An understanding of applicable federal, state and local laws, financial planning, codes and regulations, hiring and retention practices , emergency management, record keeping, communication and marketing are topics of special consideration. This course fulfils oen third of the objectives specifies for the completion of the PA Director's Core Credential. (3 Credtis) Prerequisites: ECE 105

ECE 210 - Early Child Spec Needs
This course will review the historical positions and current legislation regarding early intervetion services. It will identify challenges youg children may bring to the classroom, including those characterized as physical, cognitive, sensory, communicative and behavioral. Adaptive programming will be explored and classroom management techniques will be integrated with developmenttally approciate practices. (3 credits) Prerequisites: ECE 105, 115, 215

ECE 215 - Infant and Toddler Care
ECE 215 (Formerly ED 251) - Infant and Toddler Care This course is designed to explore the development of the whole child from the pre-natal stage through two years of age. The study of the historical beliefs about child rearing as well as current parenting styles and practices are addressed. Health and safety issues, structuring and assessing the pre-3 environment and the importance of developmentally approciate standard-based curriculm is also presented. ECE 240 - Language and Lit in ECE
ECE 240 (Formerly ED 245) – Language and Literature in Early Childhood Education This course studies the development of children's literature and introduces the student to the various types of literature both past and that which is currently available to children. Evaluating children's literature, choosing appropriate literature based on the children's language skills, techniques for engaging children in thd exploration of literature, and integrating literature acorss the curriculm is stressed. A field component is part of the course expectation. (3 Credits) Prerequisites: ECE 105 or EDU 105

ECE 245 - Methods & Materials in ECE
ECE 245 (Formerly ED 260) - Methods and Materials in Early Childhood Education This course is designed to bridge theory and practice, creating an opportunity for students to relate critical methods in ECE to evaluation, design and creation of learning materials appropriate for young children. This course emphasizes an integrated curriculum which invites children to become involved in a variety of creative activities, as well as stressing the structuring of the environment as a significant factor in the progressive growth of young children. (3 Credits) Prerequisites: ECE, 105, 115, 215

ECE 255 - Classroom Management in ECE
This expands upon the student's understanding of developmentally appropriate practices by relating teaching strategies to the various statges of child development. Current trends, issues and challenges related to the care and education of young chrilden are discussed in relation to the teacher's role within the early learning classroom. A survey of the resources available, curriculums utilized, procedures, and expectations that are mandated and professional practices that are expected are emphasized. (3 credits) Prerequisites: ECE 105, 115, 215

ECE 260 - Early Childhood Practicum
ECE 260 (Formerly ED 267) – Practicum in Early Childhood Education Development This curse is a high-intensity, supervised field experience in assigned early learning classrooms. Experiences are designed to provide practice in child oberservation and daily classroom routines, as well as in the creation and implementtation of developmentally appropraite activities utilizing proper teaching techniques. Classroom attendance is required to analyze and discuss professional considerations and issues, as well as field experience hours. (3 Credits) Prerequisites: A GPA of 3.0 or higher, ECE 105, 115, 210.
